Fitbit Program

Black Fitbit Flex 2 and purple Fitbit Alta worn on a single wrist

Rowan County is excited to announce a new employee benefit program. The County has partnered with Fitbit to offer discounted devices to all employees enrolled in the County health insurance program.  Employees will receive a $55.00 subsidy toward the purchase of a device. They will also be eligible to participate in healthy challenges throughout the year for chances to win wellness prizes. Interested employees may visit the Rowan County Fitbit Store to shop for a device.

Devices are available for purchase until April 30, 2019.  The $55.00 subsidy provided to eligible employees by the County is already reflected in the stated price.

Rowan County Fitbit Store Access Instructions

To purchase a Fitbit device, go to the Rowan County Fitbit Store and enter promo code “ROWAN” followed by your employee ID number. Your ID number may be found on your employee ID badge. Your ID number is also the same number you use to access Employee Self Service (ESS). If your employee ID number contains only two (2) digits, please add a “0” after “ROWAN” followed by your ID number. For example: if your ID number is 12, you would enter promo code “ROWAN012”.

Optional Rowan County Fitbit Program Enrollment Instructions

When you receive your device you will also receive instructions on how to join the Rowan County Fitbit Program. This voluntary program offers employees the opportunity to participate in various healthy challenges for a chance to win wellness prizes. Enrollment in the program is optional.

Device Tax Information

Please be advised that Internal Revenue Service (IRS) rules and regulations require that gifts/prizes given to employees be reported as taxable wages, and therefore subject to payroll tax withholdings. To comply with these rules and regulations, Rowan County employees who purchase a Fitbit device will be taxed on the $55.00 subsidy provided by the County. This tax withholding will be reflected on your pay advice the month following the purchase. You will not be taxed on the full price you paid for the device. Instead, you will only be taxed on the $55.00 subsidy paid by the County.
